This past weekend Laura participated in a show where 24 Key Biscayne artists presented their work. This event was hosted by the Key Biscayne Community Foundation.
Pieces from "Trans-Lucid" were shown at the exhibit and at the local paper, The Islander News.

“La LUCHA LIBRE de Laura Villarreal”

Laura Villarreal con su proyecto titulado “Lucha Libre” nos invita al viaje pictórico e individual de una Mexicana hacia su cultura popular.

Por mi experiencia y como miembro de otra nación, la lucha libre es parte importante del costumbrismo y ritual mexicano, algo así como los super héroes estadounidenses, pero reales… de carne y hueso, que hacen volar la imaginación de todo un pueblo cómplice de sus escenarios -unos cuadriláteros llenos de color, atendidos por la algarabía y elegancia de sus espectadores- hacen que la “Televisión” se vea pobre y sin substancia, en comparación con tan alegre y tridimensional espectáculo.

Villarreal rescata elementos de su niñez, unos muñecos fabricados de plástico ordinario -que logran su individualidad debido a un tratamiento decorativo casualmente único-, junto a colores de textiles, imágenes alegóricas a una geografía y luchadores vagamente recordados por aquellos que se han dejado empapar de antecedentes coloniales.

Colores, figuras humanas y paisajes escenográficamente componen la fotográfica sensación de un recuerdo sobre tela, que toma vida al ser agredido por la mancha y trazo de color que alimentan a la obra de una vitalidad humana y tangible. Esta es la evidencia que nos deja

Jaime Ferrer es artista-pintor nacido en Santiago de Chile. Es profesor de artes plásticas en el taller de arte Studio 1156 en Miami, Florida.

Laura presented her most recent work titled "Lucha Libre" in Monterrey, Mexico on february 2008.

"Now that I am a foreigner in my own country I have allowed myself to perceive things that meant nothing before but that today become a magnet that attract my attention. These figures reunited in an instant the spirit of my country and my soul as well.
That is why I make it visible, I put it into the light with the sole purpose of showing what in our eyes never existed, nevertheless, exists and goes beyond a simple observation."
